HILLER AND DILLER: PILOT {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

The pilot in this comedy series about about best-friend comedy-writing partners in Los Angeles: clean-cut family man Ted Hiller and rebellious schemer Neil Diller. The program begins with Ted returning home from work to his activity-filled house. There, wife Jeanne juggles chores while trying to watch children Josh, Allison, and Lizzie. Then, Lizzie is shocked to see the "scary" Brooke and Zane Diller in her house, with Ted explaining that their father, Neil, is missing. Then, Neil and Ted's boss, Gordon Schermerhorn, pops in, angered that the primetime TV script promised to him by Neil and Ted has yet to appear on his desk. Gordon introduces Lerner and Farkis, "the hottest young comedy writing team in town," to show Ted who'll take over if the script isn't in his hands by week's end. Then, Neil calls Ted, revealing he is in a Mexican jail. Ted rushes to rescue Neil, who reveals how an impending divorce from his second wife led to his current predicament. The next day, Ted and Neil are at the studio, working on their script. Neil discusses what they need to do to become "bigger." Later, Neil thinks he could have kids as good as Ted's if they were just allowed into the prestigious private school that Josh, Allison, and Lizzie attend. Ted goes home to convince Jeanne that they should help Zane and Brooke get into the school. Eventually, Ted and Jeanne meet at the school with Neil, who has brought along a phony Zane and Brooke to meet with headmistress Mrs. Gregg. Ted is angered when Neil makes promises he can't keep, telling Mrs. Gregg he will build the school a new gymnasium. Later, Neil asks Ted for the "secret" to raising good kids. Finally, Jeanne reveals the truth to Mrs. Gregg but is still able to call in a favor and get Zane and Brooke into the school. Includes commercials.
