PREMIO LO NUESTRO A LA MUSICA LATINA 1994 {'LO NUESTRO' LATIN MUSIC AWARDS} {SPANISH} (TV)

Summary

The sixth edition (1994) of this yearly music awards presentation program which honors Latin music achievements in the United States. This year's program, broadcast live from the Jackie Gleason Theater of the Performing Arts in Miami Beach and hosted by comedian Paul Rodríguez, gives awards in the categories of Pop/Ballad, Tropical/Salsa, Regional Mexican, and Rap, as well as an award for best music video and an excellence award that recognizes outstanding contributions to Latin music over the years. The program opens with the host Rodríguez announcing the categories and welcoming the audience and viewers across the United States, Latin America, the Caribbean and Spain. Presentations and performances in this segment include the following: Laura León and Dulce present the first award, for best male artist, Tropical/Salsa, to Jerry Rivera; Rodríguez recognizes the auditing firm of Deloitte and Touche, who have certified the awards; Selena performs a medley of her songs; Ricky Martin and Chabeli Iglesias present the award for best album, Regional Mexican, to La Mafia for "Ahora y siempre"; Laura León performs "Dos mujeres," the theme song of the soap opera by the same name; Jerry Rivera and Ana Colchero present the award for best new artist, Pop/Ballad, to Los Fantasmas del Caribe; Xuxa and Eduardo Palomo present the next two awards -- best album, Tropical/Salsa, to Gloria Estefan for "Mi tierra," and for best female artist, Regional Mexican, to Selena; Paul Rodríguez introduces a performance of "El baile del perrito" by Wilfrido Vargas and his orchestra; the first five nominees for best music video are presented by Antonella and Pedro Fernández; Lorena Herrera and Emilio Navaira present the award for best band, Pop/Ballad, to Los Bukis; Cristina Saralegui and Emmanuel present the award for best female artist, Pop/Ballad, to Gloria Estefan; Los Fantasmas del Caribe perform (song unidentified); Carlos Ponce and María José de Pablo present the award for best band, Tropical/Salsa, to Wilfrido Vargas and his orchestra; Barrio Boyzz perform (song unidentified); Odalys García and Giorgio present the award for best artist, Rap, to Proyecto Uno; Olga Tañón performs (song unidentified); and Rosario and Wilfrido Vargas present the award for best male artist, Regional Mexican, to Alejandro Fernández

Univisión president Rey Rodríguez, accompanied by Celia Cruz, present the award for excellence to Emilio Estefan in recognition of his contribution to Latin American music; the duo Azœcar Moreno performs (song unidentified); Olga Tañón and two members of Grupo Unico present the award for best new band, Regional Mexican, to Fama; Marc Anthony performs (song unidentified); the remaining five nominees for best music video are presented by Mauricio Zeilic and Azœcar Moreno; Javier Romero and Lily Estefan present the award for best new artist, Tropical/Salsa, to Marc Anthony; Pochi y Su Coco Band perform (song unidentified); Gloria Calzada and Erik Estrada present the award for best album, Pop/Ballad, to Luis Miguel for "Aries"; La Mafia performs "Me estoy enamorando"; Antonella and Pedro Fernández present the award for the best music video to Rosario for "Sabor, sabor"; Edgar Joel and Anthony Colón present the award for best band, Regional Mexican, to Los Bukis; Jerry Rivera performs (song unidentified); Angela Carrasco presents the award for best song, Pop/Ballad, to Cristian Castro for "Nunca voy a olvidarte," composed by Roberto Balester and produced by Alejandro Zepeda; the female group Pandora performs with the Mariachi Mora Arriaga (song unidentified); Ednita Nazario performs (song unidentified); Oscar de León and Lourdes Robles present the award for best female artist, Tropical/Salsa, to Gloria Estefan; Las Triplets present the award for best male artist, Pop/Ballad, to Luis Miguel; Gloria Estefan performs "Con los años que me quedan"; Chayanne and the 1993 Nuestra Belleza beauty pageant winner Michelle Odette Kindlund present the award for best song, Tropical/Salsa, to Wilfrido Vargas for "El baile del perrito," composed and produced by Wilfrido Vargas; Jon Secada and Laura Flores present the last award of the evening for best song, Regional Mexican, to La Mafia for "Me estoy enamorando," composed by Armando Larrinaga and produced by Armando Lichtenberger, Jr. Commercials deleted.
