GEORGE LOPEZ: GEORGE DECIDES TO STA-LOCAL WHERE IT'S FAMILIA {SERIES FINALE} (TV)

Summary

The finale in this comedy series, set in Los Angeles, in which comedian George Lopez plays family man "George Lopez." In this two-part episode, George and Angie find that Max has carelessly destroyed their family computer, and George decides to teach Max a lesson about respecting one's hard-earned money by having him work at the factory over his vacation. After several days, Ernie observes that Max is doing a surprisingly good job, and after fending off Gina's advances, George learns that his punishment has backfired and Max wants to quit school and work alongside him full-time. Angie refuses, declaring that he must complete high school and attend college, but Max explains that he feels personally fulfilled at the factory and George begins to consider that higher education may not suit his son. George names Max "Employee of the Week" and Benny voices her support of his plans to drop out, but George has a disturbing vision of the future in which they are all ousted from their jobs by robots and Max is stuck with no other prospects, as he was never formally educated in other fields.

George reconsiders his point of view and quickly fires Max, pointing out that he needs to have other career options, and the factory workers panic when they misunderstand his hypothetical comments about the factory someday closing. Mel then summons George and reveals that his imaginary rumors are in fact true and the company has been sold to a Mexican corporation, meaning that they will all be jobless in three weeks' time. Ernie vows to sneak "over the border" and work in the new Mexican plant, though Benny is unconcerned, as she has landed a wealthy new boyfriend, Wayne. George tries to stand up for his employees when he meets with Mr. Vega, the rich businessman who purchased the factory, but he is stunned when Vega offers him a higher-paying job managing another plant in Phoenix and immediately accepts, though he feigns anger to avoid appearing to be a "sell-out."

Back at home, Angie is shocked when George happily announces that they are moving to Arizona, and Ernie tries to be happy for his friend despite his own grim prospects. Angie and Max soon admit that they do not wish to move away, as they are happy in Los Angeles, and George shares an emotional moment with his father-in-law – and, far more surprisingly, with Benny – as he struggles with his mixed feelings about leaving. Ernie then announces that he and the others intend to "occupy" the factory to save their jobs, and George decides to take the lead and side with his extended family, even at the cost of his cushy new job. He and the others contact the media to protest the unfair closing, and Angie and Max soon join him to show their support. Vega then arrives and George makes a bold argument about the dangers of the bad publicity, though Vega admits that he has already been offered tax incentives to allow the factory to remain open and adds that George is now in charge, as the Powers will be running the Mexico branch. Thrilled, George tells his mother that they are staying after all – prompting her to quickly retract her loving comments of farewell. Includes commercials and promos.
