LO + PLUS {LO MAS PLUS} {THAT PLUS}: ALEJANDRO SANZ {SPANISH} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of playful talk shows. In this edition, Ana Garc’a-Si–eriz and Fernando Schwartz interview Spanish singer/songwriter Alejandro Sanz, who is promoting his recently released album "No es lo mismo" ("It's Not the Same"). Periodically, comedian Javier Coronas and an unnamed comedian join the program and interact with Sanz. The studio band plays as Schwartz, Garc’a-Si–eriz, and Sanz take the stage and sit at a large triangular table. The audience sings the chorus of Sanz's single "No es lo mismo," and Schwartz points out that Sanz's new disk also presents the artist's personal point of view on current events, alluding to the war in Iraq. Sanz discusses the mix of genres that his album presents, including rock, pop, flamenco, and hip hop. Garc’a-Si–eriz asks about Sanz's new personal style, and Schwartz presents a clip from Sanz's video for "No es lo mismo," filmed in Mexico City using extras who happened to pass by on the streets. Schwartz inquires about the guest presence of guitarist Paco de Luc’a on Sanz's album. Coronas and an unnamed comedian, seated behind a desk as newscasters, deliver "Las malas noticias" ("Bad News"). The duo conduct an interview with the index finger of Spanish prime minister JosŽ Mar’a Aznar, perform a parody of soldiers in Iraq, and mention Latin Grammy winners Juanes, Enrique Iglesias and David Bisbal. Schwartz, Garc’a-Si–eriz, and Sanz discuss his home in Miami, a benefit concert he will be giving to raise money for the Instituto de Investigaci—n de la Marina de Vigo (Investigative Institute of the Vigo Marina), and memories of his performances in Galicia. Sanz briefly mentions political repression in modern Cuba. He plays a little guitar, and the talk moves loosely between a variety of subjects, including the meaning behind songs on his album, his daughter, his first band, his reaction to criticism, and his meeting Prince Felipe de Borb—n and Aznar. Schwartz introduces a set of humorous clips, including an amphibious car, a British game show, and a press conference in which a journalist asks to marry George Clooney. After the clips, Coronas, in a wig, introduces himself as an unknown musician and invites Sanz to play the congos with him. Sanz, in a mock game show called "Todo sobre su vida" ("All About Your Life"), answers questions about his real name and his paintings before autographing a photo. The program ends with live music played over a montage of clips from the show.
