CAROL BURNETT SHOW, THE {WENT WITH THE WIND} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of comedy/variety programs starring Carol Burnett. In this program, Burnett welcomes the audience, informing them that Dinah Shore is her guest star. Burnett also points out actor Anthony Hopkins, who is a member of the audience. In the first sketch, Burnett and program regular Harvey Korman play two businesslike lovers who talk about getting married in a lunch-meeting setting replete with reports, memos, and note taking. Next, Burnett introduces Shore, who sings "Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover." In the next sketch, program regular Tim Conway plays one of his signature characters, "the old man," who in this episode works in a butcher shop. The slow and shuffling duffer irritates a rushed customer (Korman), who looks on in amazement as Conway falls into the meat refrigerator and succeeds in whistling "Pop Goes the Weasel" through a block of Swiss cheese. Next, the company performs a spoof of the film "Gone With the Wind" titled "Went With the Wind," in which Burnett plays Starlett, program regular Vicki Lawrence plays her maid Sissy, Conway plays Brashly, Shore plays Melody, and Korman plays Ratt Butler. In the climax, Burnett makes an entrance wearing curtains as a dress, complete with the rod across her shoulders. Next, the company sings and dances to a choreographed arrangement of "Basin Street Blues." Burnett closes the program, pulling on her ear and thanking Shore. Commercials deleted.
