LOU GRANT: NIGHTSIDE {FOURTH SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of dramas about a Los Angeles newspaper, its staff, and city editor Lou Grant. In this episode, Lou fills in for the night editor and finds himself in the same city room with a very different cast of characters. The somewhat eccentric night crew includes a cranky mail order minister and a catty society page writer known as "The Insider." As Lou tries to adapt to their ways, a story begins to break. A private yacht sinks off of Catalina with a gambling party full of prominent guests aboard. Lou sends Billie to the marina to talk to survivors while he talks with Mrs. Pynchon, who knows the owners of the yacht; Billie learns that an explosion took place on the ship before it sank and that three people are dead; and Animal attempts to put the pieces together, suggesting that the yacht owners' son was using the yacht for his own drug-running activities and that the explosion was retribution from the Mexican Mafia. In other developments, Animal gets punched out by a celebrity while shooting photos for the "Insider" column and Charlie is flabbergasted to learn that his daughter has eloped to Las Vegas with an older man. Commercials deleted.

Cataloging of this program was made possible by Grant Tinker in honor of Ed Asner.
