GEORGE BURNS AND GRACIE ALLEN SHOW, THE: THE TRIPLE SURPRISE PARTY (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series starring the husband-and-wife team of George Burns and Gracie Allen as themselves. As the star of a television comedy series, the cigar-smoking Burns plays straight man to dizzy wife Gracie Allen, who invariably embroils him -- and their neighbors Blanche and Harry Morton -- in her zany domestic schemes. Burns also appears as commentator on the action, confiding philosophically to the audience about Gracie's madcap intrigues and predicting their outcome. In this episode, George and Blanche decide to throw a surprise party for Harry Morton. Fearing that Gracie can't keep a secret, George tells her that a surprise party is being thrown for Ronnie that night and asks her to make preparations for it. Later, Gracie lets it slip to Ronnie that a surprise party is being thrown for him, before quickly covering up her tracks and convincing him that the surprise party is actually being thrown for George. Harry Von Zell, while at a cigar stand buying five cigars for George to celebrate their five-year anniversary of working together, learns from the saleswoman that George was just there buying a pipe for "Harry's" birthday. Von Zell, thinking he is the "Harry" concerned and that a surprise party is to be thrown for him that night, excitedly buys George five boxes of cigars. Meanwhile, Gracie discovers George and Blanche's gifts for Harry, the pipe and a smoking jacket. Thinking them totally inappropriate as gifts for Ronnie, she returns them. That night at the party, George, Ronnie, and the two Harrys come together at the party in a surprising incident. Commercials deleted.
