Summary
One in this dance series presented under the umbrella of "Great Performances." This program is a 1979 performance of choreographer Martha Graham's ballet, "Clytemnestra," based on Greek dramatist Aeschylus' tragedy, "The Oresteia." Graham's dance concentrates on the matriarchal character Clytemnestra as she wanders through the underworld, Hades, reliving the many horrific sins of her family and seeking liberation from her torment. Sculptor Isamu Noguchi created the sets for this production, with costumes by fashion designer Halston.
