GEORGE BURNS AND GRACIE ALLEN SHOW, THE: RONNIE'S ROYALTY CHECK (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series starring the husband-and-wife team of George Burns and Gracie Allen as themselves. As the star of a television comedy series, the cigar-smoking Burns plays straight man to dizzy wife Gracie Allen, who invariably embroils him -- and their neighbors Blanche and Harry Morton -- in her zany domestic schemes. Burns also appears as commentator on the action, confiding philosophically to the audience about Gracie's madcap intrigues and predicting their outcome. In this episode, Ronnie's music career begins taking off as his record starts netting him royalty checks. Now "independently wealthy," Ronnie takes an attractive female friend, Shelley, shopping -- to help him find an expensive cocktail dress for his mother. But Gracie is suspicious and alerts George that their son has fallen into the trap of a "scheming gold digger." Meanwhile, the omniscient George learns the truth before discussing the gold-digging women from his past. However, the dress is so expensive that Ronnie needs to borrow an additional forty dollars from Shelley. This leads to further confusion when Ronnie borrows the money from Harry to pay Shelley back -- now leading Harry and Blanche to also think that Shelley is fleecing Ronnie. Eventually, after even more confusion from Gracie and more machinations from George, George ends up footing the bill for Gracie's dress. The show ends with a Burns & Allen vaudeville routine. Commercials deleted.
