TACTIC {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

The premiere of this six-part series of health information programs intended to help in the fight against cancer by informing the public about the disease. Creative guest panelists are told of a specific aspect of cancer prior to each show. These artists use the information they receive to create educational segments for the show. Alfred Hitchcock and Hanya Holm tackle the topic of fear, which often causes cancer patients to avoid medical treatment. The director of the American Cancer Society, Dr. Charles S. Cameron, explains that every year thousands of people die needlessly from cancer because they avoid treatment. Hitchcock explains his theory about fear and how he created a dramatic scene for the show. Broadway actors Diane van der Vlis and William Shatner perform a semi-improvised scene in which a young doctor informs a female model that she has breast cancer. Hitchcock occasionally stops the scene to direct the actors as the improvisation progresses. Then, Holm explains how dance can be used to influence attitudes and communicate ideas. Three dance sequences are performed by Sondra Lee and Don Redlich, who portray people who avoid facing problems such as cancer due to their fears.
