ALL IN THE FAMILY: GLORIA SUSPECTS MIKE (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about a working-class household presided over by the opinionated Archie Bunker. In this episode, Archie comes home with a stroller for Gloria and Michael's soon-to-be-born baby, knowing that the young couple cannot afford it. He shows off its features to Edith, but Gloria arrives and they hurriedly stash it in the basement. Gloria complains to her mother that Michael is tutoring the pretty Linda Calloway again that night, and Michael stops by to mention that he will be conducting the lesson at Linda's home this time. Gloria wonders if something more is going on between them, and once they let Archie out of the cellar, she tells her father about his worries. He assures her that for all his faults, Michael is not a "girl-chaser," and Gloria decides to attend a movie with her mother, but when she leaves, Archie declares that Michael is indeed messing around on Gloria and plots to get to the bottom of it by drinking with Michael and getting him to confess. Michael arrives at Linda's apartment and admires her home, acting nervous and distracted as he attempts to teach her about statistics. She comments on his behavior and asks if he is coming onto her, indicating that she is in favor of the idea, and kissing him despite his protests that he is married.
When Michael returns home, Archie offers him some wine and talks kindly to him for once, inviting him to call him "Dad" and referring to him by his real name rather than "Meathead." They toast to the new baby and to Poland, among other things, and eventually they both become drunk. Michael begins to talk about Linda and admits that she came onto him, but then explains that he left her apartment before anything happened out of love for Gloria. Unfortunately, Archie passes out before hearing the end of his story, and Michael bids him good night. In the morning, Edith lectures a very hungover Archie, who wonders how to tell Gloria about Michael's dalliance, and Gloria soon arrives, upset about Michael coming home drunk and happy. Edith explains about his night with Archie, and when Michael arrives, he happily explains that he conducted extra tutoring sessions with Linda in order to save up the money to buy a stroller—the very same one that Archie and Edith bought.
