AMERICAN DAD!: HOT WATER (TV)
Summary
One in this animated comedy series about conservative CIA Agent Stan Smith and his family: housewife Francine, liberal co-ed Hayley, nerdy high-schooler Steve, alien Roger and talking fish Klaus. In this episode, narrated by guest star Cee Lo Green, Stan goes through his rigidly scheduled morning routine and gets into a car accident with Principal Lewis while dropping Steve and Roger at school, injuring his back. Lewis takes him to a hot tub store, saying it will help ease his pains, although Stan is unnerved by the fey salesman and unsure about the purchase. However, he spots a used 1970s model and is immediately taken by it and installs it at home. Stan discovers that the hot tub can talk, and he gets in and is soon seduced by its charm, leading to a bit of afternoon delight with Francine. They spend a magical day and night enjoying the Jacuzzi’s otherworldly features, only to realize later that they forgot all about Steve and Roger, leaving them stranded at school. Stan soon becomes addicted to the hot tub, taking days off work and throwing an impromptu party with the salesman and other guests. Francine orders him to “take a break,” but the smooth-talking hot tub lures Stan back in and encourages him in song to “do whatever he likes.” Francine catches him and finally demands that he choose between the hot tub and his family, and Stan quickly picks the Jacuzzi.
Francine takes the kids to her mother’s house, and Steve and Roger express their sadness over losing Stan in a tragic song. As Stan enjoys a few days of hedonistic bachelorhood, the salesman grows suspicious and begins researching the strange hot tub, eventually learning that a lightning strike brought it to life and that it caused the deaths of several former owners. He calls Lewis in a panic and they rush to Stan’s home to save him from the murderous appliance, but the hot tub attacks them both. Later, Stan parties with two questionable young ladies, but worries that he is a married man. Francine receives a call from Stan asking her to come home, but when Stan arrives at Francine’s mother’s house, he realizes it was the hot tub who called to lure her back to the house. The hot tub grabs both Francine and Stan, demanding that they use him again and explaining that he had a former owner in the ‘70s who abandoned his playboy lifestyle and settled down with a family who neglected him. Stan fiercely battles the hot tub, but eventually it overpowers both him and Francine and seemingly kills them, leaving Stan lifeless on his lawn... Commercials deleted.
