DON'T TRUST THE B---- IN APARTMENT 23: SHITAGI NASHI . . . {FIRST SEASON FINALE} (TV)
Summary
The first season finale in this comedy series about Indiana native June Colburn and her adventures with her outrageous roommate Chloe in New York City. In this episode, June happily reflects on her transformation from a nerdy, unpopular high school student to a big-city party girl – but then lands in the hospital with alcohol poisoning after a raucous evening out with Chloe. Robin warns her that she cannot drink for six months and therefore cannot socialize with Chloe, though Chloe and James breezily assume that June faked her dire symptoms for amusement. Later, at a sushi restaurant, June notices several patrons reacting with awe to Chloe, whom they call "Shitagi Nashi," and creepy neighbor Eli reveals that there is actually a graphic novel series, "Tall Slut, No Panties," that is based on Chloe and is highly popular with Japanese readers. Elsewhere, James heads to "Dancing With the Stars" and erupts with frustration at beleaguered assistant Luther when he finds that co-star Dean Cain's dressing room is larger than his own.
Chloe, accustomed to being admired, seems disinterested in the comic book, written by a Patrick Kelly, and she bans June from partying with her when June reminds her that she still cannot drink. June frets to Mark that she is losing her newly acquired cool status, and though Mark suggests that hanging out with Chloe is merely a way to "avoid reality," June swears that she and her roommate genuinely have a lot in common. June then discovers that Chloe has actually hoarded every issue of "Tall Slut, No Panties," and June happily reveals that she once drew her own comic book, "Trina and Sissy," depicting her slightly sad prom night adventures with her high-school best friend. June urges Chloe to embrace her nerdier side and invites her out bowling, but Chloe instead drags June out on a double date with handsome Paolo and his awkward roommate Patrick – the author of "Tall Slut." When June questions Patrick for merely following Chloe around, he points out that she is doing the same thing with her own life.
Dean Cain catches on quickly when James "re-decs" his dressing room and tries to swap, and Luther fears that he will be fired for the gaffe. June tries to "refocus" on her pre-Chloe goals, and Chloe is outraged to find that Patrick has now created a flattering comic book of June, thus taking away Chloe's "thing." James gives himself an epiphany when he suggests that Chloe is merely afraid of losing her ephemeral "It Girl" status, and he steals Fred Savage's dressing room in order to give Luther, his "friend-who-he-pays," his own space as a show of gratitude. June creates a special issue of "Trina and Sissy" starring Tall Slut, assuring Chloe that she will never be forgotten, and a mollified Chloe invites her still-abstinent friend out for the evening.
