LAST MAN STANDING: LAST HALLOWEEN STANDING (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about "man's man" Mike Baxter and his family, consisting of his wife, three daughters and grandson. In this episode, Mike is disappointed to find that Eve is no longer interested in celebrating Halloween, though Vanessa eagerly dresses up as a pirate princess, tired of portraying "goody-goody" characters. Mandy is exasperated when her father gives her a not-at-all-sexy Garfield costume to wear to a party, and Kristin, who has to work through the holiday, forbids her parents from taking Boyd trick-or-treating, declaring that he is too young for "all that Pagan death imagery." At work, Kyle immediately sides with Kristin, though Ed agrees that Halloween "builds character" in young children. That evening, the Baxters' neighbor Bill is mesmerized by Vanessa's costume, and Mike, as yet another John Wayne character, decides to take Boyd out for the evening despite his mother's wishes.

Arriving at Ed's house, Mike is impressed to see that his boss is spending the holiday with Elvira herself, while back at home Eve admits to her mother that she is eschewing Halloween because she wants her slightly older crush, Victory, to "see her as a woman." Mike arrives home with Boyd – or rather, with Jimmy Wong, a neighbor boy wearing an identical costume. Mike panics, though the Wongs soon call and assure them that Boyd is safe, and Mandy attempts to sneak back into the house in a modified Garfield outfit. Kristin arrives home from work and, despite Mike's desperate attempts to stall her, is outraged to find out about the trick-or-treating and the accidental switch. Victor arrives in costume and invites Eve to hang out at his house, wanting to honor her love of the holiday, and Mike apologizes to Kristin, admitting that he misses spending the holiday with his three girls now that they have all outgrown it. Kristin reconsiders and decides to take her son out after all, and the none-too-pleased Wongs soon arrive to make the switch. Bill's obsession with Vanessa quickly wanes when he sees her out of costume, and Vanessa tries to persuade Mike to abandon his hunting metaphors while serving Boyd his dinner.
