TREME: KNOCK WITH ME - ROCK WITH ME {THIRD SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

The third season premiere in this dramatic series about a group of New Orleans residents and their attempts to rebuild their lives in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. In this episode, twenty-five months after the storm, Antoine haggles with yet another cabbie and joins a memorial parade for Kerwin James, but the cops soon break it up for their lack of permit and arrest Antoine. Toni arrives at the police station to retrieve his horn and finds that several other musicians were taken in, but not officially arrested. In New York, Janette observes a mysterious repeat customer at her restaurant as Delmond attends a release party for his new album and learns that it is receiving good reviews, though he worries that fans are ignorant of the Mardi Gras Indians culture depicted in the songs. Davis watches proudly as Annie performs onstage, while elsewhere LaDonna clashes with her condescending in-laws, with whom she, Larry and the boys are still living. Hidalgo visits Councilman Thomas in prison, where he is serving a 37-month sentence, and asks if he is "cooperating" with the police in a way that could implicate him, and when Deputy Chief Marsden refuses Colson's request to be transferred back out of homicide, Colson asks that the other detectives' detail work be limited to eight hours a week.

Toni and Vincent Abreu, still searching for answers about his son Joey's death, visit Dr. Minyard at the morgue, where they encounter investigative reporter L.P. Everett. Sofia tells her new coffee shop friends about the arrests at the memorial parade, and Chang takes Janette to a fancy dinner party hosted by her arrogant former boss, Enrico Brulard. As Antoine's friends celebrate Kerwin's life, Davis observes that getting arrested actually had a positive effect on their reputations. Colson heads to Indianapolis to visit his sons, and Hidalgo assures Liguori that Thomas is not going to name names, though Liguori still refuses to give him additional rebuilding funds. Davis recruits Clarence "Frogman" Henry to help him create a "funny but deep" blues and jazz-inspired opera about Hurricane Katrina, and Janette is pleased to meet the famous musician when she arrives to pick up her mail, including her Road Home money. Antoine half-heartedly coaches the school marching band, and L.P. visits Toni and explains that he is investigating the many suspicious deaths in the area since the storm and needs her help in making contacts in Algiers. Undeterred by Liguori's refusal, Hidalgo visits Robinette and learns that he is working with NOAH, the New Orleans Affording Homeownership association, and has been hired by a woman from Florida to do largely useless repairs on local houses. Davis describes his plans for his "Opus Without Pity" on the radio, and Albert, hard at work on his house with the so-called "advanced sales" money, is pleased to hear his and his son's music on the air.

Sonny attempts to spend some private time with Linh, though they are limited by her father's watchful eye. Antoine voices his annoyance that his own arrest was largely ignored, though Desiree reminds him not to compromise his school job with legal problems. Colson is surprised when his ex-wife tells him that their boys cannot come to stay in his shoddy FEMA trailer, and Janette resumes her "taboo" relationship with Jacques. At Cardella's salon, Toni notes that she has still not met Sofia's new boyfriend, and Toni's associate King takes L.P. to an Algiers barber shop and introduces him to the local "wisemen." Hidalgo tries to sweet-talk the Florida contractor, Morrison, though she rebuffs him, and Davis attempts to give "musical heritage" tours to a group of tourists, though they are less than thrilled with his selective knowledge. LaDonna continues feuding with her relatives over dinner, frustrated that Larry has not yet found a house, and back in New York, Chang suggests that Janette's "stalker" is a restaurant owner trying to entice her back to New Orleans. Delmond tells Albert about the album party and the good reviews, and though Albert is disinterested in popular opinion, he declares that the songs will "stand" on their own merit. Colson returns to New Orleans, and when the musicians, including Antoine, convene for another parade, they are surprised and pleased when the cops arrive to be their escort.
