MINDY PROJECT, THE: FRENCH ME, YOU IDIOT (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about the life and loves of Dr. Mindy Lahiri, OB-GYN. While on their flight, Mindy and Danny attempt to have sex in the plane’s restroom. However, the plane is jostled and Mindy and Danny find themselves stuck in the plane’s toilet and sink, respectively. They eventually arrive at Mindy’s place, only to find Cliff waiting for her with a mariachi trio as a “romantic gesture.” He attempts to reconcile with her, although Mindy is uncertain as to how to respond. Danny, feeling awkward, leaves, adding to Mindy’s feelings of uncertainty. She tells Cliff that they should break up because she loves someone else, but Cliff believes she is joking; he was deeply moved by the e-mail Mindy sent him, which was actually written by Danny on her behalf. Mindy talks to Danny about this development and tries to make out with him, but he doesn’t want to interfere with her relationship with Cliff. They argue about the matter until Mindy decides to resolve it by getting Cliff to break up with her. Jeremy seizes upon an opportunity to take in dancers from the New York Metropolitan Ballet as patients, and has Peter assist him. At home, Mindy does her best to act like an obnoxious and seemingly psychotic individual in order to stave off Cliff’s attractions, but Cliff is soon distracted by news of his grandmother’s death. He insists that he can’t be alone and Mindy reluctantly offers to let him spend the night. Other doctors hope to steal the Metropolitan Ballet account away from Jeremy. Jeremy discovers, much to his disappointment, that Peter despises ballet and is only going along to earn extra money for the practice. Mindy talks to Danny about the situation with Cliff; he believes that she doesn’t actually want to break up with him. Jeremy resolves to give Peter a thorough education about ballet, but Peter is unenthused. At one point, Jeremy realizes that many of the potential clients are women he’s dated during a “ballerina tear,” and thus he will be unable to win over their confidence, leaving only Peter to secure the contract. Danny speaks to Cliff, as he believes Cliff is feigning his grief over his grandmother’s death. However, Cliff soon proves that it is genuine, and Danny is distressed to learn that Mindy spent the night with him to comfort him. Danny asks Mindy about it, concerned that she may have slept with Cliff. Mindy vehemently rejects this notion, but Danny is unconvinced and storms out. Peter approaches Brendan and asks for his cooperation on the ballet account; Brendan seems intrigued by the idea. Mindy and Danny attend Cliff’s grandmother’s funeral, where Cliff is to read a eulogy written by Mindy. Peter and Brendan make their pitch to the ballet director, who insists that they stay for their rehearsal, much to Peter’s chagrin. Cliff reads the eulogy Mindy wrote, but it proves to be terribly written and highly inappropriate. During the eulogy, Mindy and Danny sneak off to make out. They accidentally knock over a candle, which sets off a terrible fire in the church, ending the service early. Mindy confesses to Cliff that she has feelings for Danny; Cliff retaliates by punching Danny in the head. Peter finds he cannot hide his frustration at watching the slow-paced ballet rehearsal, to the point that he starts harassing the dancers; at this point he and Brendan decide to leave. Danny and Mindy return to her apartment to help him recover, and are interrupted when a light bulb spontaneously shatters, lending credence to Cliff’s threat about his grandmother’s ghost haunting them.
