BLINDSPOT: MANS TELEPATHIC LOYAL LOOKOUTS (TV)
Summary
One in this dramatic suspense series about the FBI's investigation into an amnesiac woman covered in strange and meaningful tattoos. In this episode, Patterson finds that David has solved another of Jane's tattoos and has left a trail of clues for her in the interest of "adventure," though she is aware that as he is dead, his presence is merely a figment of her subconscious. Jane struggles to process her romantic encounter with Oscar, while elsewhere Weller enjoys some private time with Allison and invites her to a family dinner at his home. Sarah visits Reade, hoping to rekindle their relationship, but he firmly rebuffs her, stating that he no longer loves her. Weitz finds Zapata in a gambling den and tries to enlist her help in taking down Mayfair, pointing out her highly suspicious connections to the deaths of Varma and Guererro and the disappearance of Carter. Elsewhere, at a bar, Mayfair strikes up a flirtation with an attractive woman, Alexandra. At "David's" urging, Patterson breaks into his apartment via the fire escape, nearly falling to her death while doing so, and finds a key labeled "Carson," which she interprets as a clue.
Patterson traces the key to a clock company, where she discovers a card-playing automaton and what appears to be a constellation image. Back at the lab, she analyzes the star map and guesses that it refers to a secondary meaning for Jane's already-solved bull tattoo. Jane questions Oscar about her life and personality before her memory loss, and Reade receives a threatening call from the mysterious voice, which orders him to destroy evidence pertaining to Carter's disappearance before Mayfair sees it. Patterson heads to Aldebaran Antiques, named for one of the stars in the Taurus constellation, and tells the proprietor, Mark Waterman, all about her unusual scavenger hunt. He seems intrigued, but then attacks and restrains her, ranting about his need for a "sacrifice." Reade deletes frames from the surveillance video, and the others grow worried about the reliable Patterson's absence and begin to track her whereabouts. David helps Patterson to look for an escape from Waterman's basement as the team zeroes in on Aldebaran, and they soon arrive at the empty shop and deduce that Mark Waterman is really Owen Lyman, a murder suspect whose brother Patrick is a powerful senator.
Elsewhere, Patrick angrily berates his brother for kidnapping Patterson, and upon realizing that she has freed herself, they chase her into the snowy forest. Weller, Jane, Reade and Zapata arrive at the brothers' cabin and pursue the criminals, and Jane ends up shooting Owen dead and rescuing a frightened Patterson. Back at headquarters, Mayfair explains that Owen was in fact a serial killer and that Patrick had been covering up for him with the help of the powerful DC Littlefield pharmaceutical company, meaning that whomever tattooed Jane was aware of the connection and intended for the team to prevent the next murder. With the crime solved, Reade comes clean to Mayfair about the mysterious voice's threats, and she quickly decides to assign a protective detail to him and to Sarah. Zapata reconsiders Weitz's offer and agrees to help investigate Mayfair, though stipulates that her other co-workers must be left out of it. At dinner, Weller makes an emotional toast to his father, glad that they are "all a family again," but Bill suddenly collapses. Jane asks Oscar about their surveillance of Weller at her own memorial service, and he explains that they are "assessing his vulnerability," particularly in relation to her. He gives her several photos from which to "compose" memories of her former life, and they soon end up back in bed together. Finally, Patterson bids a sad farewell to David, who assures her that she will again find love, perhaps even with Borden. Commercials deleted.
