SONNY AND CHER COMEDY HOUR, THE {1973 CHRISTMAS SHOW WITH WILLIAM CONRAD} (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy/variety series starring Sonny and Cher. This Christmas-themed episode features special guest William Conrad.
The program opens as a wily pickpocket seeks Yuletide "donations" on a train, and Sonny, Cher and their many houseguests then perform "Jingle Bells." Next, Conrad portrays a homeless man who is welcomed into one family's elegant home for a Christmas meal, and he immediately attempts the same strategy on the house next door. Sonny and Cher take young Chastity to see Santa Claus, though they are quickly distracted by their own "wish lists," and the two sing "Higher Ground" over a politically themed animation sequence.
Aided by costumed carolers, Sonny, Cher and Conrad perform "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear," "A Gift of Song," "O Come, All Ye Faithful," "The First Noel," "Deck the Halls," "O Holy Night," "Joy to the World" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." In an installment of "Sonny's Pizza," long-suffering Rosa is annoyed by Sonny's delivery of extremely cheap wine – as well as by his very belated marriage proposal. Sonny performs "The Twelfth of Never," and Conrad closes the program by relating the famous "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus" story. Commercials deleted.
