DIFFICULT PEOPLE: CINDARESTYLOX (TV)

Summary

One in this dark comedy series about two self-centered best friends/would-be comedians living in New York City. In this episode, Billy schemes to find the money for Madonna tickets as Arthur is slapped with "Olbermann duty" at PBS, and Matthew excitedly prepares for his audition to be "bait" on the crime series "To Catch a Predator." Marilyn runs into a glamorous old friend, Shelley Waxman, who explains that her granddaughter "keeps her young," which prompts Marilyn to give Julie a stack of cash to have her eggs frozen. Billy runs into his old drama teacher, John Passias, who invites him to teach an acting class at his new school, and Julie, tired of signing for packages for her annoying neighbor Lizzie, steals the latest delivery and is amazed to find a state-of-the-art golden toilet within. Unable to fit on the tiny seat, she uses Marilyn's cash to pay for a "fat-freezing" process — as well as an injection of Cindarestylox, which freezes her face into a painful, but socially beneficial, smile.

Billy is outraged to find that the drama students are participating in an industry showcase at which they will be considered by real talent agents, but Julie urges him to "crash their scenes" and show off his own talents instead. Julie's wide smile lands her a variety of advantages, including a spot moderating a panel of women filmmakers, and Passias enthusiastically praises "protégé" Billy at the showcase. Shelley is dragged off by the cops when her son reveals that she's been harvesting stem cells from her granddaughter to remain youthful, and Julie is castigated by the audience when she inappropriately beams throughout the panelists' serious stories. The Cindarestylox eventually wears off, however, just in time for Lizzie to see through her lies and take her stolen toilet back. Elsewhere, Matthew is furious to have missed out on the "To Catch a Predator" role — and Passias is featured as the latest predator in a new episode, thus ruining Billy's career hopes anew.
