NEW LEAVE IT TO BEAVER, THE {A.K.A. STILL THE BEAVER}: DAY DREAMIN' (TV)

Summary

One in this series that reunites the Cleaver family three decades after the production of "Leave It to Beaver," depicting the Beaver and Wally as adults with their own children.

This episode features several musical numbers. A new girl named Chelsea moves to town from Cleveland, attracting a great deal of attention at Kip's school. Outwardly, Kip appears to be indifferent to her, but in truth he finds her attractive ("I Got it Bad"). He tries to ask her out, but she rejects him, claiming that she has a boyfriend in Cleveland. Wally helps Kip realize that Chelsea is likely feeling alienated in her new surroundings and needs a friend to help her adjust. Taking Wally's advice, Kip talks to Chelsea again and apologizes for his earlier behavior, asking if they can be friends. Her attitude towards Kip improves and they go out to a nearby diner together. There they discover they have similar tastes in music ("I Dig the Oldies") and they strike up a rapport.

Chelsea and Kip's relationship develops over the course of a month, and she tells him that her boyfriend Larry is coming from Cleveland to visit her. She expresses frustration at Larry's obsession with baseball, wishing that he was more "well-rounded." On her porch, Kip confesses that he wants to be more than just friends with her, and he kisses her. Just then, Larry appears, surprising the both of them. He is none too pleased at seeing Chelsea and Kip together. Kip retreats back to his house, where he refuses to emerge out of embarrassment. June and the rest of his family offer him advice ("Buck Up"), encouraging him to go out and try to win Chelsea back anyway. Feeling more confident, Kip tries to talk to Chelsea in school, but she doesn't respond. When he tries to pass her a note in class, the teacher makes him read it in front of everyone, and he confesses his true feelings for her ("It's Gotta Be You"), and she responds in kind. However, it turns out that everything was only a dream. In class, Kip introduces himself to the real Chelsea, relieved to discover that she does not have a boyfriend. Commercials deleted.
