CHARLIE BROWN THANKSGIVING, A (TV)

Summary

One in this series of animated children's specials featuring the characters from the comic strip "Peanuts."

Thanksgiving has come, although Charlie and Sally are unhappy about its arrival. Peppermint Patty calls and says her father’s out of town, and asks if she can accompany Charlie and his family for Thanksgiving dinner. She invites herself before a flustered Charlie can respond, and she adds that Marcie and Franklin will be coming as well. He doesn’t get the chance to tell her that his family is going to his grandmother’s house for Thanksgiving dinner and thus won’t be home when Patty and company arrive. Linus suggests that Charlie hold one dinner for his friends before attending the other one with his family, and he and Snoopy offer to help him prepare it. Snoopy and Woodstock fetch a ping-pong table and various lawn chairs from the garage to serve as settings for the dinner. He then assists Linus and Charlie in preparing a “meal” of toast, popcorn, jelly beans, and other junk food before dressing himself and Woodstock up like pilgrims.

The guests arrive and Peppermint Patty suggests that they say a prayer before eating, and Linus obliges. Patty is displeased with the lack of traditional Thanksgiving food at the table and yells at Charlie, driving him off. Marcie points out that Patty essentially invited herself to the proceedings, and she realizes that she shouldn’t have yelled at Charlie. She sends Marcie to find Charlie and apologize on her behalf. Charlie feels as though he has ruined everyone’s Thanksgiving, but Marcie points out that everyone should be thankful for the opportunity to spend time with each other. Charlie and Patty reconcile and he calls his grandmother to tell her that he is going to be late to her dinner, but to his surprise she invites all of his friends along for a real Thanksgiving dinner. In their absence, Snoopy and Woodstock have a Thanksgiving dinner of their own, complete with a turkey and pumpkin pie. Commercials deleted.
