AMEN: THE TALENT SHOW (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about a dishonest church deacon and his relatives and friends. In this episode, Reuben emcees the church's second annual talent show and introduces Ernest, who performs an outrageous and reworded version of "Bust a Move" with the help of Chris and Clarence. Amelia then portrays an exasperated schoolteacher struggling to wrangle her rowdy, wisecracking students – played by Ernest, Thelma, Rolly and Inga – as she sings "The Warden of P.S. 83" from the musical "All Dressed Up." Next, Cassietta appears as Alberta K. Johnson, or "Madam," the strong-willed character created by poet Langston Hughes, and recites "Madam's Past History," "Madam and the Wrong Visitor" and "Madam's Calling Cards." A somewhat less-than-graceful Thelma performs a number from "Swan Lake" with several other ballet dancers, and Reuben introduces the elderly Mother Hale, who runs the Harlem charity to which the evening's proceeds are to be donated, and he sings "You're My Child." Finally, Rolly and the rest of the congregation perform "In That Great Gettin' Up Mornin'." Commercials deleted.
