CHEERS: COACH'S DAUGHTER (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about a group of regulars at a Boston bar.
Coach’s daughter Lisa is coming to visit him and introduce him to her fiancée. He is nervous about making a good first impression, although Sam assures him that he will be fine. Meanwhile, Diane has become interested in caricature art and starts making sketches of the customers, much to Sam’s annoyance. Lisa arrives and is greeted by Coach and the rest of the bar, and she is soon followed by her fiancée, a salesman named Roy who works under Lisa, the district manager of the company. Coach and Sam are soon put off by some of Roy’s crass comments, and they discover that he sells suits door-to-door. Coach finds that he dislikes Roy intensely, but tries to conceal this fact from Lisa. Sam advises Coach to tell Lisa about how he feels, although Diane tells him that he may be judging Roy prematurely, and that he should get to know him better. Despite their efforts, their conversation with Roy only reinforces their opinion of him as a rotten person, especially after he reveals that he had Lisa pay for dinner and hits on Diane.
While Roy is out, Coach pulls Lisa aside to talk to her about him. Coach forbids her from marrying him, and she says that while she knows he is abrasive and only marrying her to advance his position in the company, she is desperate to be married and have children. Roy is so far the only person who has asked her to marry him, and she fears that she will not have another opportunity. Coach remarks on how much Lisa looks like her mother, who she describes as being “not comfortable with her beauty.” However, Coach explains that she was beautiful because of her imperfections, and so is Lisa. This gives Lisa the confidence to tell Roy that she doesn’t want to marry him, and she gets him to leave. Coach is pleased at this development and goes out with Lisa for ice cream.
