CHEERS: FRIENDS, ROMANS, AND ACCOUNTANTS (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about a group of regulars at a Boston bar.

In this episode, Norm tries to gain favor with his boss by volunteering to organize his company's annual office party, but he quickly realizes that he has no aptitude for such a task. His friends all offer ideas for how to liven up the accountants' lives, and Norm decides to go with Diane's "stupid fraternity tradition" suggestion and throw a toga party. The event, held at Cheers, turns out to be a dud, however, with only Norm showing up in traditional Roman attire. Attempts at charades and a limbo game fall flat, and Norm is further concerned when he remembers that he is also expected to set his boss up with an attractive woman. He selects Diane, who takes offense until she sees his young and handsome boss, Mr. H.W. Sawyer; the two seem to hit it off right away.

The boring party continues as Diane observes that Sam seems envious of her good-looking date. When H.W. makes aggressive advances and ignores her refusals, Norm intervenes and roughly hauls his boss away from his friend, prompting H.W. to fire him on the spot. Diane is contrite, telling Sam that she feels like a "cheap harlot" for going along with the plan. All of Norm's now-former co-workers are impressed with his courage in standing up to H.W.; the party finally livens up as they celebrate his "heroic" actions. Commercials deleted.
