GEORGE LOPEZ: TOKEN OF UNAPPRECIATION (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series, set in Los Angeles, in which comedian George Lopez plays family man "George Lopez." In this episode, Carmen is relieved when she and Toby are accepted into the popular crowd, and Angie excitedly tells George that she has found his father – somewhere on a list of several hundred Manny Lopezes. At work, George is crestfallen when his bosses exclude him from an important pitch meeting, observed by one Ben Adams, who suggests that George would receive far better treatment at Aerocorp, a rival company. Carmen is upset when her new "friends" send mean-spirited e-mails to Toby as a joke, and George complains to Angie that his bosses do not truly see him as management despite his promotion. He attempts to prove himself by behaving in a more authoritative manner at work, but he is then temporarily demoted back to the factory floor to fill in for an absent employee and decides to take Adams up on his offer after all.
Carmen tells Toby the truth about the e-mails but admits that she still wishes to attend the popular girls' party, though Angie and George remind her of the importance of loyalty to her oldest friend. As Angie works her way through the list of Mannys, George tours Aerocorp and is excited by its upscale features, but Adams then reveals that he has been hired solely as a token Latino and not on the basis of merit. He argues that George should take advantage of the preferential treatment, as he has suffered disadvantages because of race in the past, but George takes offense and leaves. He confronts Jack and Mel and explains that he nearly quit because of their tactless behavior, suggesting that they should occasionally work on the floor themselves and allow him into important meetings to prove their respect, and they hastily agree to his terms. Angie and George praise Carmen when she decides to forgo the party and stick with her pal, and Ernie offers his "major respect" of George's choice, though Benny, of course, is less impressed. Commercials deleted.
