NANNY, THE: THE BABY SHOWER (TV)
Summary
One in this clash-of-cultures comedy series about Fran Fine, a flamboyant, wisecracking Jewish woman from Queens employed as a nanny by the upper-crust widower Maxwell Sheffield of Park Avenue. In this episode, a pregnant Fran experiences mood swings as she celebrates Brighton's acceptance to Harvard, and is upset when he admits to her that he does not want to go. She heads to a salon with Val, dolling herself up in order to distract Maxwell from the bad news about his son, and while there, newly-clairvoyant Libby offers to tell their fortunes. She reads Val's tea leaves and tells her that she is headed for a great romance with someone with the initial "F," but warns Fran that she sees Maxwell in bed with a leggy blonde in California. Fran panics and tells Sylvia, but Sylvia assures her that Libby is not really psychic and that it means nothing. However, Val immediately begins dating Fred the pharmacist, and Fran worries anew that Maxwell will cheat on her. Yetta arrives a week early for Fran's baby shower, and Maxwell heads off for a few days in California for work. Niles dismisses Fran's fears, but he himself panics upon learning that C.C. is accompanying him, worried that she is the blonde in question.
Niles and Fran decide to head for the West Coast to stop their true loves from cheating, and while at the hotel, Fran runs into famed actress Fran Drescher. Fran is starstruck, and Niles is eager to hear about the latest with the likable butler on Drescher's show. Fran lets herself into Maxwell's room and is relieved to find him alone in bed, but she then realizes it is C.C., who explains that they switched rooms. She assures Fran that she is happy with Niles and would never cheat with Maxwell, and elsewhere, Niles accidentally sneaks into Maxwell's bed. Fran catches them and decides that Niles was the blond in Libby's vision, and Maxwell assures her that he would never betray her. Back in New York, Brighton nervously tells his father that he wants to take a year off and travel rather than going to college, and though Maxwell is highly displeased, Fran convinces him that he must be allowed to see the world and make his own mistakes. Later, Libby tells Yetta's fortune, informing her of the excitements to come over the next few decades. Commercials deleted.
