BOSTON LEGAL: FINDING NIMMO (TV)
Summary
One in this darkly comic series focusing on a firm of brilliant but emotionally-challenged attorneys in Boston. In this episode, Alan is upset when Tara tells him that it is officially time to "move on" from their relationship, and Denny decides to take him fishing to take his mind off the split. Elsewhere, Detective Stephenson visits Catherine to question her about Bernard's "disappearance," and Garrett grows impatient with Sara's slow entrapment of the seedy Reverend Diddum. After a harrowing helicopter ride to Nimmo Bay in Canada, Alan struggles to learn fishing basics, while back in Boston Shirley is shocked when Catherine confesses that she killed Bernard, believing that he was sure to kill again himself. The partners frantically debate the situation, aware that it would be a "PR nightmare" for the firm if they were discovered to be covering up the murder of a client by another client, and Paul urges Shirley to convince Catherine to confess to the cops.
Alan is further annoyed to learn that he is supposed to release the fish, which are apparently "uncatchable" anyway, and though Catherine sees through Shirley's seemingly altruistic suggestion, Shirley convinces her that she is compromising her own morals by hiding the truth. Catherine reconsiders, but demands to have Alan defend her. Diddum is shocked but pleased when Sara tells admits to him that she has a "clergy fetish," and Shirley, Tara and Brad traipse into Catherine's basement and find Bernard's body in a freezer. Catherine is soon arrested and is distressed to learn that Alan is unavailable, while elsewhere Alan is thrilled when he finally develops a knack for fishing and catches several salmon – while Denny catches none. They meet Peter Barrett, an environmental lawyer who requests the famous Denny Crane's help in preventing fish farms from harming the local salmon population, though Denny opines that environmentalists are "evildoers." Sara makes her move on Diddum, but tells him that they must settle the Bauer case before getting romantically involved to avoid a conflict of interest, and when Diddum hastily agrees to settle, Garrett calls him out on selling his client out for sex and demands a flat settlement of $100,000 from Denise.
In their rustic cabin, Alan and Denny have a heart-to-heart chat about their deepest fears, and in the morning they are horrified to realize that they have "slept together." Denise is surprised and immediately suspicious when her ex abruptly agrees to the $100,000 settlement without complaint, and when Alan continues to out-fish Denny, Denny pulls out one of his beloved firearms and shoots a salmon, landing himself in "time-out." Catherine tells Shirley that she has no defense, believing that she was morally right to kill two-time murderer Bernard, and in court, Shirley requests a speedy trial, repeatedly citing Catherine's advanced age as cause. Alan decides that he and Denny must "go be lawyers," and they burst into Barrett's courtroom as he defends the fish, with Alan giving one of his classic impassioned monologues about the "majestic" Pacific salmon. Paul warns Shirley not to rush Catherine's case, though Shirley points out that it boils down to mere justification, and Alan and Denny make a fragrant return to Boston, agreeing that "Canada liked them."
