OCTOBER ROAD: THE INFIDELITY TOUR (TV)
Summary
One in this drama series about a young novelist who returns to his hometown to teach at a local college after having written a tell-all book about the locals.
Owen is still angry over Alison’s affair with Ikey and is having difficulty forgiving her. Nick contemplates what to do now that he’s been fired from his job. Owen talks with Phil about Alison’s affair, and Phil advises him to find out the truth about what happened in order to put the matter to rest once and for all. Nick walks in on Hannah trying on her wedding dress and is faced with the reality of her upcoming marriage. Nick asks Eddie to help him realize their childhood dream of starting a window business together, but Eddie thinks the idea is ridiculous. Sam admits to Hannah and Big Cat that he’s still uneasy about their marriage, and his questions reveal that the two still cannot agree on some issues, such as where they intend to live. Phil plans to help Owen save his marriage by sending Nick on what he calls an “infidelity tour,” acting as a third party between Ikey and Alison as Owen visits “the scene of the crime” and via Nick’s interviews tries to piece together the exact details of the affair. Nick reluctantly agrees and starts his investigation.
Eddie visits Hannah and urges her to reveal an unspecified secret to Nick, but she flatly refuses. He threatens to reveal the secret himself, but Hannah pleads with him not so as not to upset Sam. Nick leads Owen on the “infidelity tour,” detailing the beginnings of the affair after Owen had passed out drunk at a party at his friends’ house; Nick’s interviews reveal that Alison, also somewhat inebriated, went to Ikey for a ride home, and was clearly upset. Owen lets his suspicions get the better of him and doesn’t seem to be listening to Nick. Nick recalls his first meeting with Hannah when they were children. Owen seems comforted when he learns that Alison and Ikey’s first encounter amounted to what Nick refers to as “truck sex.” They visit Ikey’s house, where Owen insists on hearing every detail of Alison and Ikey’s sexual activities. Nick has another flashback, this time to a romantic encounter between himself and Hannah in Ikey’s house just after their high school graduation. Ikey arrives and Owen becomes violent, forcing Nick to break them up. Owen vows that he’ll never renew his friendship with Ikey.
Big Cat and Hannah have a discussion about their living arrangements, and Sam indicates to them that he resents being left out of their decision-making process. Nick and Owen continue the “infidelity tour” the next day at Whiskey Point, where Nick reveals that Alison and Ikey danced together. Nick recalls that he and Hannah used to go there to dance as well, and remembers an incident when Hannah told him she had to back out of their trip to Europe after high school. Eddie decides to go through with opening the window business. Sam talks to him, revealing that while he likes Ray he’s uncomfortable with the prospect of him becoming his stepfather. Nick takes Owen to a motel room where Alison and Ikey stayed during a weekend when Owen was away with the kids. Nick reveals that they did not have sex there, but rather spent the night talking to each other. Hannah talks to Sam about his uneasiness concerning the upcoming marriage. Nick reveals that Alison was feeling remarkably lonely after marrying Owen, having given up her old life to be with him. She tried to tell him, but Owen’s contentment with his life made it difficult for him to understand her. Owen admits that he should’ve been more empathetic towards Alison’s plight. Nick again recalls going away to Europe without Hannah.
Eddie seems as though he is about to reveal Hannah’s secret to Nick, but backs out at the last second. Aubrey catches up with Nick to express her disappointment that he’s leaving the college. Despite the “infidelity tour,” Owen is unable to forgive Alison and stays with Nick for the time being. Nick visits Hannah to tell her that he’s happy for her. Includes commercials.
