THEATRE GUILD ON THE AIR: ALL ABOUT EVE (RADIO)

Summary

One in this series of adaptations of successful Broadway plays and, occasionally, books, or films presented by the Theatre Guild. In this program, Tallulah Bankhead stars in "All About Eve," a satire on the life of Broadway stars, producers, writers, and young aspirants to stardom. Based on the 1950 Twentieth Century-Fox film of the same name, the story concerns Margo Channing, an aging Broadway star who is terrified of becoming too old to play younger roles. Into her life comes Eve Harrington, an apparently forlorn, poverty-ridden young girl who idolizes Margo and has followed her performances from San Francisco to New York. After Eve ingratiates herself into Margo's life, her selfish motives become apparent. Includes commercials for U.S. Steel (read by George Hicks and recorded on disc); promos for the Twentieth Century-Fox film "The Snows of Kilimanjaro," and the following week's program, "The Winslow Boy," starring Basil Rathbone; and a public service announcement urging listeners to be checked for diabetes by their local health-care practitioner.
