NBC SUNDAY MYSTERY MOVIE: COLUMBO: A CASE OF IMMUNITY (TV)
Summary
One in this series of police dramas in which Los Angeles homicide detective Lt. Columbo's unassuming manner masks his keen intelligence and sharp investigative abilities. In this episode, the first secretary of the Surian legation in Los Angeles, Hassan Salah, murders his chief of security in a plot to overthrow his government. Salah has carefully planned out his tasks for this plot, but the one thing he does not count on is having to contend with Lt. Columbo. Salah enlists the help of a low status employee, Rahmin Habib, to get rid of the legation's chief of security. Then, the pair of traitors make the scene of the murder appear to be a robbery. In addition, they burn important documents. Salah leaves the embassy building to meet with members of the Los Angeles police department, who are planning their security tactics for the impending visit of the King of Suria. While at the meeting, Salah, as planned, receives a phone call from Habib, who pretends to be the already-deceased chief of security. Right after, Habib blows up the safe in the embassy and then leaves the premises dressed as a student protester. The pair of conspirators hope to make it appear as though one of the many young picketers marching outside the embassy gates is responsible for the crimes. The plan seems error free. However, after examining the clues, Columbo is sure that the crimes were committed by an inside party rather than a student protester. In fact, Columbo immediately deduces who the guilty party really is; he just needs to gather evidence to prove it. Includes commercials.
