WALTONS, THE: THE SERMON {FOURTH SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of dramas about the Waltons, a large, close-knit family living in rural Virginia during the Great Depression and World War II. In this episode, schoolteacher Rosemary Hunter and local minister Reverend Matthew Fordwick decide to marry, causing some anxiety among the Waltons. Olivia agrees to teach in the one room schoolhouse, and John-Boy accepts the challenge of preaching the Sunday sermon, while the couple go on their honeymoon. Olivia finds substituting for Rosemary more difficult than she imagined as Jim-Bob proves to be quite a problem student. In addition, some of the townsfolk do not approve of her "progressive" ways. John-Boy has even more trouble putting together a sermon. He feels unequal to the task, everyone outside his immediate circle doubts he can have anything worthwhile to say to his elders, and Grandma wants him to preach in a "fire and brimstone" method with which he feels uncomfortable. The answer to his dilemma comes when the family has a picnic up on the mountain, and he learns some important lessons about God's intentions. Commercials deleted.
