ABC AFTERSCHOOL SPECIAL: TEEN FATHER (TV)
Summary
One in this series of dramas intended for young audiences. In this episode, sixteen-year-old Maria Torres gives birth to a baby girl, Paula. Paula's father Roy stops by the hospital to see Maria, but Maria's parents won't let him anywhere near her. When Roy learns that Maria has chosen to keep Paula instead of giving her up for adoption, he is determined to be a father -- like the one he never had. At the park one day, Roy runs into Charlie, an alumnus of Roy's high school. Also a teen father, Charlie invites Roy to join him at a support group. Maria shows up at the park with Paula, and Roy meets his daughter for the first time. Maria daydreams about marrying Roy despite her parents' disapproval. Roy knows that he wants to be part of Paula's life so he decides to attend a local community college instead of going away to Stanford. He realizes that marriage may not be the right thing for him and Maria right now, however. Maria is ecstatic when Roy tells her of his plans, but when she realizes that Roy doesn't want to marry her she shuts him out of her life. As the baby's baptism approaches, Roy tries once more to make peace with the Torres family. Commercials deleted.
