Summary
Tape one of two. The premiere in this drama series about a family-run psychiatric clinic in the Boston area. This episode begins by introducing a man who continues having visions of running his car over a body. Dr. Ved Lahari tries to figure out why the patient has fantasies of killing and what issues he may have with women in his life, specifically his overweight wife. Meanwhile, the soon-to-be-married doctor David deals with a woman haunted by bad dreams, while Dr. Marie Teller tries to convince an anorexic woman, Chickie, to use a feeding tube. Also, family matriarch Dr. Sam Garrison struggles with a temperamental social worker, Kim, as well as his son Matt, the family's business manager, who is certain the clinic is going bankrupt. Meanwhile, Ved and Marie continue their secret affair, despite their age difference. Later, at a staff meeting, Sam attempts to determine whether Kim deserves to be fired for a recent flare-up with a patient, or whether head nurse Lucy is at fault. The same morning, county sheriff Joe "the Toe" Gates -- an old friend of Sam's who's now running for state senate -- arrives with a revelation that his wife Ida has become a kleptomaniac and needs help. Later, Sam learns that Issy and Matt's mother -- his ex-wife, Lily -- is arriving next week. After Ida inappropriately questions Sam about Lily running off with another man, Dr. Art Makter is assigned to get to the root of Ida's filching. That night, in bed with Marie, Ved wonders why they can't take their relationship public -- not realizing that the whole staff already knows about them. The tape cuts off abruptly.
