Summary
One in this dramatic anthology series. Part one of seven. This seven-part mini-series concerns the controversial life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the man who headed the top secret project at Los Alamos, New Mexico, to develop and deploy the first atomic bomb; ethical and moral concerns over the use of nuclear weapons would later plague the scientist and bring him into conflict with colleagues and government officials. In this episode, Oppenheimer's work as a university professor at Berkeley brings him into marginal contact with a series of communist organizations. The discovery that Germany has been conducting experiments with atomic fission prompts fears in America about the development of a potent new weapon.
