CNN SOVIET COUP COVERAGE, HOUR 91: "CNN EARLY
PRIME" AND "SHOWBIZ TODAY" (TV)
Summary
Continued from T:27740. The 91st hour of CNN's
coverage of the attempted coup against Soviet President
Mikhail Gorbachev. On "CNN Early Prime," Lou Waters and
Sharyl Attkisson review developments in the Soviet
Union: the statue of KGB founder Felix Dzerzhinsky has
been toppled in Moscow by a cheering crowd; Gorbachev
has made some appointments to the positions formerly
held by the coup leaders; and Anatoly Lukianov, chairman
of the Supreme Soviet and an old friend of Gorbachev's,
has been accused by Russian President Boris Yeltsin's
office of masterminding the coup. Following a report on
the western European reaction to the day's developments,
Attkisson interviews economist Padma Desai about the
measures that the Soviet and Russian leadership must
take to solve the food shortage problem. Myron Kandel
concludes the program with the day's business news.
On "Showbiz Today," hosts Bella Shaw and Laurin Sydney
introduce a piece on the voting system for the Emmys,
which will be awarded later in the week. Other
highlights include interviews with actor/producer
Kenneth Branagh and actress Mary Beth Hurt; a report on
the Festival Latino, a series of Latin American films
shown in New York City; a look at country music's growth
in popularity; and a profile of actor Scott Bakula. The
program ends with a preview of "The World Today" by
Catherine Crier. Continues with T:27545.

magazine, Era Plus laundry detergent, Kellogg's All-Bran
