FAMILY TIES: THE WAY WE WERE (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about the Keaton family -- Elyse and Steven, two aging ex-hippies, and their conservative, materialistic children. In this episode, the Keatons get an unexpected visitor, Aunt Rosemary, who claims to have written the family a letter telling them she was coming to visit. Elyse realizes that something is wrong with Rosemary when she tells a story, which is her specialty, and forgets most of it. After this incident, Rosemary admits she has been having trouble remembering a lot of things, including people's names in the family. Elyse and Steven take Rosemary to see a doctor about this memory loss. The doctor reveals that Alzheimer's disease is beginning to set in and tells them there is no known cure for it. This revelation disturbs Elyse, who feels the need to do something, but knows she has no recourse. Rosemary tells Elyse that it is now her job to assume the title of "family storyteller." Commercials deleted.
