Summary
One in this serial drama series about the four Reed sisters -- Alex, Georgie, Teddy, and Frankie -- of Winnetka, Illinois. In this episode, as Christmas draws near, the following events occur: Alex learns her talk show, "Alex Live," will be cancelled due to low ratings and lack of sponsors; Frankie and Mitch realize it was a mistake to give custody of their infant son, Thomas, to Frankie's sister Georgie; the other sisters visit Georgie, who has decked out her house for Christmas as a salve for her family's recent troubles with her teenage son Trevor; Alex complains about her cancellation woes to the Santa at the Pricetown discount store; a hostile Trevor smashes Georgie's heirloom tree-topper (a glass angel given to her by her father) and hits Georgie when she tries to prevent him from leaving the house; as Alex prepares for her last show, Big Al, the owner of Pricetown, arrives at the studio and saves the day by offering to sponsor the program; Teddy learns that Falconer has not celebrated Christmas since his young son died; Georgie and John send Trevor to the Rediscover Institute, a reform school; Alex invites Big Al over for dinner and is taken aback by his gifts of a refrigerator, and a Moroccan feast -- complete with waiters and belly dancer -- which he has delivered to her house; Georgie is devastated over her inability to handle Trevor's problems and blames John for the decision to send their son away; Frankie and Mitch each petition the judge to give holiday custody of Thomas to the other as a gift; Georgie dismantles her Christmas decorations and tells the sisters she will not be celebrating the holidays this year; Alex learns that Big Al was the Santa at Pricetown, and feels guilty for misjudging him as crude; Teddy accompanies Falconer to his son's grave and suggests he start to forgive himself for the boy's accidental death; the family gathers at Alex's for a bittersweet Christmas Eve dinner, and Georgie arrives to tell Frankie and Mitch that she has arranged to give them permanent custody of Thomas.
