Summary

This special, presented by The Museum of Television & Radio, examines the history of science fiction on television from the 1950s through 1994. Co-hosts Leonard Nimoy, William Shatner, Dean Cain, and Carrie Fisher introduce segments which cover the following topics: invaders from other planets, time travel, children's science fiction, the innovations and idealism of "Star Trek," the role and evolution of the robot, journeys into nightmare worlds, science fiction in the 1970s, the evolution of the "Star Trek" concept in the 1990s with two new series, and other dimensions and parallel universes. The program includes interviews with the following creators: Kenneth Johnson, creator of "V" and executive producer/writer of "Alien Nation"; D. C. Fontana, story editor/writer for "Star Trek"; and Michael Piller, executive producer/writer for "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." Also includes clips from the following programs: "The Outer Limits," "V," "Alien Nation," "Mork and Mindy" "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman," "The Time Tunnel," "Captain Z-Ro," "Quantum Leap," "Space Patrol," "Tom Corbett, Space Cadet," "Fireball XL-5," "Star Trek," "Johnny Jupiter," "Lost in Space," "The Outer Limits," "Max Headroom," "The Twilight Zone," "The Prisoner," "Space: 1999," "Battlestar Galactica," "Star Trek: The Next Generation," "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," "'Way Out," "The New Twilight Zone," and "Amazing Stories."
