CHICAGO HOPE: INTERNAL AFFAIRS (TV)
Summary
One in this series of medical dramas about the personal and professional lives of the staff of the state-of-the-art Chicago Hope Hospital and the ethical dilemmas they face. In this episode, the following events occur: Dr. Billy Kronk and Dr. Dennis Hancock come upon an auto accident on their way home from a bar and Kronk shocks police and bystanders alike by freeing a man trapped inside a car by cutting his leg off with a chain saw; Kronk is furious when the police take him in for a breathalizer test after saving the man's life -- a man who, it ironically turns out, is a rookie place kicker for the Chicago Bears; Steven and Barbara -- close friends of Nurse Camille and Dr. Aaron Shutt -- put the Shutts in a difficult position when they ask Aaron to perform a fetal tissue transplant on Steven, who is dying of Parkinson's disease, using tissue from Barbara's fetus from a pregnancy the couple initiated expressly for this purpose; the D.A. opens an investigation into whether Kronk's extreme measures were necessary to free the football player from the car, and while Hancock supports Kronk in public, he expresses serious misgivings to him in private; an ex-girlfriend of Dr. Daniel Nyland's arrives at the hospital with symptoms of a tumor in her adrenal gland, but when Geiger removes it, the symptoms inexplicably persist; though Steven and Barbara have a court order to to have the fetal tissue transplant, chief-of-staff Dr. Phillip Watters attempts to block the operation from happening at Chicago Hope because he finds it morally obscene; and in order to support Barbara through the trauma of having her baby aborted to save her husband's life, Camille must come to terms with her own unresolved feelings about an abortion she once had.
