LAW & ORDER {LAW AND ORDER}: CHARM CITY (TV)

Summary

One in this series of dramas that deals with the investigation, arrest, and prosecution of criminals. The first half of each episode concerns the police procedure that leads to the arrest of a suspect, while the second half covers the efforts of the district attorney to prosecute the case. In this episode, Detectives Briscoe and Curtis are investigating a subway bombing that has left twenty people dead. What complicates matters is the fact that it was some kind of toxic gas that killed the subway riders. Meanwhile in Baltimore, Detectives Frank Pembleton and Tim Bayliss hear about the crime in New York and link it to a church bombing that happened five years before. In both cases, a metallic arsenic was used in the bombing. Pembleton and Bayliss travel to New York but keep the information they know about the case a secret. Both sets of detectives get strong leads on a suspect, but Briscoe and Curtis arrive first and arrest Brian Egan. The detectives take turns interrogating Egan until he makes a statement about the crimes. Assistant D.A. McCoy plans to seek the death penalty, but then learns that Pembleton may have violated Egan's constitutional rights. The jury finds Egan guilty on all counts of murder in the first degree, and McCoy tries to make a deal with Egan if he will reveal the names of the other people involved in the bombings.
