TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JOHNNY CARSON, THE {JONATHAN WINTERS, JIMMY BUFFETT, DAME EDNA EVERAGE} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of late-night talk/variety programs hosted by Johnny Carson. On this program, the guests include comedian Jonathan Winters, singer Jimmy Buffett, and Australian personality Dame Edna Everage. In his opening monologue, Carson comments on the following topics, among others: the rough week that the people of Los Angeles have had because of the fires; having to cancel two shows last week; the phenomenon of helicopters broadcasting high-speed car chases on the news; the city of Burbank naming a public park after him; and Geraldo Rivera playing a talk-show host on an episode of "Perry Mason." Next, Carson shows some clips of performing birds that have appeared on the show. The first guest, Jonathan Winters, discusses the following topics: how he picked out his outfit for the show; his feelings about being on the show with Carson for the last time; his family's association with banking during the Great Depression; how the computer age is confusing him more than he usually is; planning a fishing trip to Minnesota; and why he feels sorry for the big fish, but not the small fish. He also segues into portraying his characters, Elwood and Chester. Next, Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band perform "Money Back Guarantee." Buffett then joins Carson and Winters and talks about his love of fishing, getting back together with his wife and having a baby, the new CD box set that includes some new material, and getting ready to go on tour. The last guest is Dame Edna Everage (Barry Humphries), who chats about what an historic event it is to finally meet Carson; why she is dressed in patriotic garb, despite being Australian; the second-hand jewelry she's wearing; her friendship with English royalty, especially Queen Elizabeth; and growing up in Australia. She then introduces a clip from her upcoming television special, "Dame Edna's Hollywood." Includes commercials and promos.
