STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE: TRIALS AND TRIBBLE-ATIONS (TV)

Summary

One in a series of science fiction programs about a twenty-fourth-century space station, Deep Space Nine. In this episode, Captain Sisko and the crew aboard the Defiant travel back in time to protect Captain James T. Kirk from the nefarious plot of a vengeful Klingon. As the program begins, Sisko amazes two dour representatives of Temporal Investigations with an account of his recent time travel. Told in flashback, the following events occur: Arne Darvin, a Klingon disguised as a human, uses a mysterious orb to transport the Defiant one hundred years into the past. Darvin has nursed a grudge against Kirk dating back to the twenty-third century, when Kirk doomed Darvin to a lifetime of wretched imprisonment. Historically, this event occurred when the Enterprise became infested with tribbles -- small, furry creatures with alarming breeding capabilities. The twenty-fourth-century Darvin, having travelled back in time to this incident, plants a bomb in one of the cute, purring vermin, which will kill Kirk and alter the course of galactic history. Sisko and his crew must find the booby-trapped tribble and capture Darvin without altering the past themselves. The Defiant crew struggles to blend in, but cannot conceal their clumsiness with inferior technology and their awe in the presence of the legendary Kirk, Spock, and company. They face other distractions: Worf suffers embarrassment over the mysteriously dissimilar Klingons of the past; Dr. Bashir fears a sexy, flirtatious woman may be his great-grandmother; and Dax finds herself attracted to Mr. Spock. Back in the present, the temporal investigators are satisfied with Sisko's report, despite the fact that temporal integrity has, indeed, been breached -- Deep Space Nine finds itself choked with enthusiastically reproducing tribbles. Commercials deleted.
