BEYOND VAUDEVILLE (TV)
Summary
One in this series of off-beat talk shows featuring a mix of television celebrities with nostalgic appeal and various New York eccentrics. Host Frank Hope introduces guest Imogene Coca who discusses her start in show business as "Little Imo" at the age of nine, co-starring with Sid Caesar, and in later years working on "The Brady Bunch," playing Granny's "ma" on "The Beverly Hillbillies," and appearing in movies with Chevy Chase. The next guest, Buddy Clayton, lip-synchs to a recording of "You'll Never Know" by Rodney Dangerfield and tells a story about attempting to collect money from Sid Caesar. Following this, Herbert Stempel appears, comments on the movie "Quiz Show" and the scandal behind the game show "Twenty-One" on which he appeared, and answers questions from Hope's home version of the "Jeopardy" game. Next, Chairman Steve, "The Poet Laurie-ette of Greenwich Village" reads a poem he wrote about Stempel's notoriety. Comic Neil Connie Wallace does a comic routine about his days as a male stripper, and Joey the Monkey follows with a dance number. The program closes with Clayton recounting a story of Tony Bennett being offered a new nose for free by a well-known plastic surgeon.
