X-FILES, THE: EL MUNDO GIRA (TV)

Summary

One in this series of science fiction dramas about FBI agents Mulder and Scully and their investigations into "unsolvable" cases involving paranormal phenomena. In this episode, Mulder and Scully investigate a mysterious death that has left a community of migrant workers in an uproar. Maria Dorantes was a young woman caught in a love triangle between two brothers, Eladio and Soledad. A witness from the migrant camp tells Mulder about a legendary creature called the Chupacabra, which killed Maria during a hot yellow rain, accompanied by a bright light. Mulder is convinced that the incident the woman describes is not the Chupacabra of Mexican folktales, but a rare meteorological event or even an alien. But when Scully performs an autopsy on Maria, she finds the body has been ravaged by a massive, deadly fungal infection. Meanwhile, Eladio, the last person seen with Maria, has disappeared, and Soledad insists his brother was the killer. Mulder teams up with INS agent Lozano to track down the continually elusive Eladio, who leaves a trail of bodies in his wake, all of which suffer from the same fungal infection. In the end, Scully wonders if Eladio is carrying a contagious disease, Mulder conjectures about a possible alien influence, and stories of the Chupacabra continue to flourish. Commercials deleted.
