Summary
The premiere in this comedy series about five thirtysomething friends living in Los Angeles. In this episode, independently wealthy millionaires Shrug and Robbie discuss the impending arrival of Robbie's friend Arthur for a two-month stay in L.A. He'll be staying with Robbie, who has been living in Shrug's spacious guest house while looking for another place. Meanwhile, on his flight, New Yorker Arthur meets Lauren and discusses how much he hates L.A. and is writing a book about it. Later, at an intersection, due to a broken car horn, Robbie is unable to honk at a woman and thus becomes a hero for having shown restraint behind the wheel. The attractive woman driving the other car invites Robbie to a party that night and offers to set him up with her model friend, Danna. Meanwhile, Arthur explains to Lauren how pal Robbie became so rich while Lauren -- a part-time masseuse and process server who moved to L.A. from Ohio -- says that "trustafarian" Shrug is one of her massage clients. Once in L.A., Arthur struggles to drive on the freeway before arriving at Shrug's place and reuniting with Robbie. However, Robbie is distracted by having just seen Elliott Gould driving a Honda. Then, neighbor Jennifer Grey comes by but Arthur doesn't recognize the actress due to her recent rhinoplasty and embarrasses himself when trying to rectify the situation. Arthur thinks he'll have no chance of lasting for his two-month assignment but Robbie thinks otherwise. Meanwhile, Lauren works on a client's back before serving him. Later, Robbie goes to a party where he's triumphantly introduced as "the guy who didn't honk." He then clicks with Danna as Shrug works the room and chats up Elliott. Finally, Jennifer and Arthur meet up with Lauren as she's giving a massage. There, Arthur is advised by Lauren's client to leave L.A. as quickly as possible, saying that it's too easy to get sucked in by its laidback charms. Includes commercials.
