DAILY SHOW WITH JON STEWART, THE {TIMOTHY HUTTON} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of nightly comedy shows which take a skewered look at current events and feature field stories about any topic. This program, hosted by Jon Stewart, is broken down into different segments and features actor Timothy Hutton. The first segment, "Headlines," looks at a number of topics, including the ongoing struggle for peace in the Balkans as Yugoslavian soldiers begin to withdraw from Kosovo after seventy-eight days of fighting; NATO's massive relocation of refugees, a project dubbed "Joint Guardian"; and a report in the Village Voice that claims that the character Jar Jar Binks in the movie "Star Wars: Episode One: The Phantom Menace" is a homosexual. Next, reporter Beth Littleford joins Stewart on the phone from Pristina, Kosovo, where she is covering the situation from her cozy chateau. In "Other News," a report finds Amnesty International denouncing the use of shock-stun belts in prisons. Stewart then brings in two reporters -- Vance DeGeneres, who is covering the Albanian point of view of the war in Kosovo, and Mo Rocca, who is covering the Serbian point of view -- to discuss happenings in the war-torn country. After this, Stewart welcomes Hutton to the program. The two discuss his work and character in the new film "The GeneralÕs Daughter." Next, Stewart is joined by two male dancers for the special segment "Thursday for the Ladies." Following that, the segment "Back in Black" features commentator Lewis Black talking about some of the news stories that have fallen through the cracks during the past week. Stewart closes the show with a moment of Zen. Commercials deleted.
