HUGHLEYS, THE: MIRACLE ON 135TH AND AVALON (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about the Hughleys, a black family that moves to the white suburbs. In this episode, Darryl teaches Michael how to wrap Christmas gifts with duct tape. Then, Yvonne catches Darryl snooping around trying to find his presents. Later, Sydney reveals to Michael that Santa Claus is not real. Downstairs, Darryl interrupts his Christmas party because he is so upset Michael has learned the truth about Santa. Darryl tells Milsap and the Rogers that he needs to "save Christmas." Thus, a drunk Milsap begrudgingly agrees to dress like Santa and scale the roof while Darryl recites "Twas the Night Before Kwanzaa." During Darryl's reading, Milsap falls off the roof and now Michael truly knows the truth, thinking adults have been playing him for "a stooge." Later, Yvonne and the Rogers catch Darryl writing his own letter to Santa. Milsap and the others immediately begin making fun of Darryl. Yvonne admits that she knew about Darryl's "secret" and doesn't care. Darryl tells the story of how he wrote a letter using a magic crayon to Santa when he was ten years old, hoping to get his father off work in time to celebrate Christmas. When his wish came true, he believed that a "miracle" had occurred. He tells another occurrence of the magic crayon working, via a hip sidewalk Santa helping Darryl get a sold-out Christmas toy for Sydney -- after he'd penned a letter to St. Nick with the crayon. Overhearing the story, Michael and Sydney decide to write to Santa with the magic crayon and then fax their letters to him. Darryl is happy the kids believe him, until he sees that they asked for snow in Los Angeles, something highly improbable. However, the man Darryl thought to be Santa many years ago stops by the Hughley's "on business" as a delivery man, getting Darryl to sign for merchandise with the magic crayon. Afterward, it starts to snow, making instant believers of both Michael and Sydney. Includes commercials.
