LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT {LAW AND ORDER: SVU}: HONOR (TV)

Summary

One in this series of police dramas -- a spin-off of "Law & Order" -- about the sexual crimes investigated by the elite Special Victims Unit of the New York Police Department. This program investigates the brutal rape and murder of Nafeesa Amir, the daughter of an Afghan diplomat posted to New York City. The detectives are shocked to find that her family grieves little over her death since she disgraced her culture's traditions by sleeping with a man other than the one promised to her in marriage. The man she loves is a suspect until a DNA test reveals that her murderer was a family member. Munch and Fin apprehend Nafeesa's brother Jalil on a plane headed out of the country, and he proudly confesses to the crime. Since he is twenty-one and no longer a student he cannot qualify for diplomatic immunity and is therefore prosecuted. District Attorney Alexandra Cabot fears that the jury will sympathize with him as having been culturally programmed to commit the crime and restore the family's honor -- so she subpoenas Nafeesa's mother Aziza, the only family member grieving over the death of the young woman. Distraught over her daughter's fate, Aziza relates the grisly details of the night in question, but her candor proves to be her undoing. Commercials deleted.
