DAVY JONES' LOCKER (TV)
Summary
The first of two programs on this tape. This children's program features Bil Baird's Marionettes to tell a story that jumps between realities. The program begins with human beings preparing to put on a marionette show; the marionette show begins with the marionettes themselves putting on their own stage musical, performed by, of course, other smaller marionettes. The musical itself is about a typical working schlub hoping beyond hope that he will win a 100 million dollar sweepstakes. But first, the sweepstakes has to be put to post. On the way, the man accidentally breaks his son Joey's model pirate ship, time-warping the young boy into the age of pirates where he finds himself aboard the S.S. Barnacle, face-to-face with Captain Barnacle. Barnacle gets the misguided notion that there is buried treasure found at the bottom of the sea in the titular location and forces Joey to help him find it. After hijinks, misadventure, and encounters with mysterious creatures of the sea, Joey and Barnacle find the buried treasure. However, Joey still needs to get back home.
Cataloging of this program was made possible by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
