LAW & ORDER {LAW AND ORDER}: CRIMINAL INTENT: PARDONER'S TALE (TV)
Summary
One in this series of dramas -- a spin-off of "Law & Order" -- that deals with the investigation, arrest, and prosecution of criminals, but with a slight twist: each episode begins from the criminal's point of view as the actual crime is committed. This episode concerns the slaying of a newspaper reporter who "knew too much." As the episode opens, New York Ledger reporter Derek Fried receives an anonymous threatening voice mail at work, quite possibly from some seedy police officer he was investigating. Next, Greg Genereet, in order to pay off some debts, shoots Fried and his fiancee dead in front of a nightclub. Goren and Eames locate the unwitting getaway driver Phil who leads them to Genereet. Upon interrogating Genereet, the detectives learn that he was a former police officer who was thrown off the force after he developed a crack addiction. After being offered a plea bargain, Genereet reveals that he got his orders from assemblyman Jack Nawrocki. Carver puts the pressure on Nawrocki who sends Goren and Eames on a trail that leads all the way to the New York state governor in Albany. Commercials deleted.
